Displays for 2010

The Nonsuch Gallery display has been given a face lift this year. Besides the architectural drawings which we hope will form the basis for the proposed model of the Palace, there is also the story of the owners of it over years, with portraits of the people concerned.
The kitchen now has a beautifully restored simmering range and the cook is about to make some of the dishes which would have needed this sort of cooking.

In the Loose Box the display concentrates on the history of the gardens at Nonsuch during the time that the Farmer family lived there. Not only have we some beautiful illustrations of what was grown in them, but there are portraits of William Frances Gamul Farmer and his wife Matilida, together with one of Samuel Carson who was the man who looked after the hothouses and greenhouses. Many gold medals were won, year after year while he was in charge. One hundred years after his death he was remembered at one of the Royal Horticultural Society’s meetings.

The Cook and Parlourmaid will be presiding over activities in the kitchen as usual – preparing for tea-time and evening dinner.

There is always something new to see and learn about so come along and bring your friends.
